Frosset Håb / Frozen Hope

Frosset Håb / Frozen Hope

Acrylic painting on canvas Structural and mixed media on canvas 40 x 60 cm 2 parts

In this picture I was dealing with frozen or freezing hopes. Children who grow up in desolate family conditions, who are exposed to violence and ambivalent behavior, lose their hope of change and improvement of their situation until they simply accept them and freeze their hope. After a long time these children can learn to hope for self-determination again. It is a long, exhausting path for them, as they first have to learn again to trust adults so that they can draw the conclusion that there are adults, make good decisions for them and do not endanger them and their health. Only then can they manage to build up hope on xy again. Hope that adults are already doing the right thing arises from the basic trust in attachment figures. If this is shaken to the core, there is no longer any reason for these children to believe that adults will make good decisions for them. They remain caught in the trauma of attachment, take over everything for you alone and are of the assumption, based on their experience, that they can best protect themselves. Learning to trust in hope is one of the hardest things these children can do. Often the injuries are too deep and hope remains frozen.
